Queen Lili’uokalani (ruled 1891-1893)

The only queen and last sovereign of the Hawaiian Kingdom, ruling until the overthrow of the Kingdom in 1893. She was imprisoned and forced to abdicate the throne in 1895.

King David Kalakaua (ruled 1874-1891)

King Kalakaua was known as the “Merrie Monarch” and promoted a revival of Hawaiian culture which had been banned by foreign missionaries.

Prince William Lele’iohoku

The brother of King Kalakaua and Queen Lili’uokalani died prematurely at age 22 of pneumonia changing Hawaiian history as the throne was passes to the only Queen of the Kingdom, Lili’uokalani.

Grandson of King Kamehameha I, he was described as the last great traditional chief and was the first king to encourage the revival of traditional Hawaiian practices.

King Kamehameha I (ruled 1795-1819)

“Kamehameha the Great” was the first conqueror and ruler of the Kingdom of Hawai’i. He was from what we now call the “Big Island” of Hawaii and his rulership gave the island chain the combined name of Hawai’i.
